thinking like a european
"i feel too lucky, taking all these vacations everywhere!" i said.
"no way! think like the europeans, who get 9 or 10 weeks a year!" wink jr. said encouragingly.
(paul might be able to attest to the veracity of this?)
so me and jason are going to work tomorrow, and then by the means of public bus, light rail train, airplane, and blue VW beetle, will arrive in the city of Angels tomorrow night, in the company of "That adorable blond woman in San Francisco" (in Mel's words) and her splotchy fiance, to visit the wonderful Jeff. and see my sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, The Chad.
tonight, i plan to wash my underwoos, bake cookies to send to Manx in exchange for That Song, and make a CD. i have fantasies about tooling around the city of steel and concrete and fast cars and the smell of the ocean nearby and listening to some music, maybe a lot of modest mouse because i've been downloading much of it from kaazaa:
billy bragg & wilco "california stars" (overdone i know)
modest mouse "never ending math equation"
modest mouse "summer"
modest mouse "all night diner"
modest mouse "paper thin walls"
orb "fluffy little clouds" (classic!)
and maybe some marvin and dry and heavy and mjb (which are all at home so i can't upload 'em.)
have a good, long weekend.

we didnt become the MOST BITCHEN' COUNTRY IN THE WORLD by taking 7 weeks of holiday a year, little lady. there will be plenty of time for rest when you arrive at the amazing new "Afterlife Disney Theme Park". but honestly, with the way you're pagan ass has been acting lately, im not sure if they'll let you in.

i meant The Old World, not the Continent. especially as you live on some pathetic little island attached like a stillborn fetus to the continent by an umbilical Chunnel.
and my use of the word 'biotch' demonstrates all things good and great about the US of A.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i feeel like you are making fun of me for my slightly antiquated and prejudiced views of The Continent as all things cultured, refined and fair . . . can you blame me? YOU DON'T HAVE GUNS!
anyways, FIVE weeks is still better than our paltry TWO. (unless you're a Me who abuses her sick time, which makes it closer to 4 broken-up-into-personal-days-here-and-there.)
stop making fun of my country, biotch.

Your post was conveyed to me, by foot runner, cleft stick and animal-skin coracle: For, this week, the yacht is moored just off the mysterious coral-bound island of Minicoy. I must get around to returning to work, post-Xmas!
We get an average of 25 days leave per year excluding public holidays and high days. That means 5 working weeks off by simple arithmetic.
People working flexitime, can -through canny working- manage to make another 13 days holiday - meaning a fabulous 7.5 weeks in total!
But I would swap ALL of this to be working on 30 minutes notice for some "progressive" employer in the United States of your America! What joy to have my home life (and occasional recreational drug usage) prescribed by the penny-pinching, bible-thumping pioneers of commerce that is the engine room of your great country! How brilliant it is to have my employment prospects stillborn because I happen to go into the red once in a while... etc. etc. How splendid, to be among people for whom 1989 was (*is*) the height of fashion. Okay, I'm losing the plot here. Perhaps you could edit/gussy up my comments so that they read as humourous and not slightly bitter.
hmm.
We euros just don't seem to GET WITH THE PROGRAM do we? Life is not for living. It's for working!! Then getting laid off!!! then not having the possibility of welfare!!! etc. etc.
Better visit quick, we're getting more like Your Great Country by the day.
Love etc.
P.
