$243, 1 x-ray, 2 blood tests & 2 antibiotics later

my little baby laid lethargically on the basement carpet all day yesterday. this morning i awoke to the pleasant sound of her vomiting and diarrhea-ing tuna fish next to our bed (i thought tuna would be a good homecoming treat for her. obviously, i was wrong) and jason discovered large diarrhea spots all over the basement.

the vet asked when i had first fed her-- because the X-ray showed all the tuna fish sitting in her stomach, and an irritated, mucus-y colon (ew you probably didn't want to know that). they gave her a subcutaneous fluid injection for dehydration and said if she got worse, to bring her to be hospitalized and put on an IV. now i have an amusing mental image of my cat lying in a miniature hospital bed, wearing a gown that doesn't quite tie all the way around her hefty middle section, one paw extended to an IV drip and a comedic and pitiful expression, longing for a mouse to chase.

kyle attempted to cheer me up by singing:
When you're standing on first
and you feel something burst
Diarrhea! *thbt* *thbt*
Diarrhea! *thbt* *thbt*

now i have to shove pills and a plastic syringe full of white syrupy stuff down her throat twice a day. when i squeeze her face to open her mouth, she looks kinda like Ugly Cat.

in other news, props to jason and p for being so kind and going with me to the vet, helping me with elliott and cleaning up her doo-doo. also, we have been having lots of fun with phaela and risa visiting. i made kahlua and there have been many rounds of dictionary, scrabble, and pictionary played. i saw Standing in the Shadows of Motown last night and it was excellent. i recommend it to all, esp. gwen.

also, today i will be brining a 14.43 lb. turkey in salt, sugar, thyme, bay, allspice berries, and tomorrow shall be wrapping it in hickory smoked bacon and stuffing it with garlic and onion to bake. mmmmmmmmmm. turrrrrrrrkey. happy thanksgiving.
